Not to brag or anything, but I do a lot!
I’m a filmmaker, videographer, photographer, marketing specialist and more. When I re-launched RodKirby.com as a brand website (it was originally a blog for Christian entrepreneurs), I wanted to create a central hub for everything that I do. But, over the years, I’ve evolved and my personal/professional branding got muddled. I tried to showcase a mix of everything I do instead of focusing on one thing at a time.
Now, I have 3 distinct websites that will focus on 3 critical areas of my personal brand;
- RodKirby.com – Filmmaking
- RdKirby.com – Corporate Video Producing & Photography
- RodKirby.photography – Photography
Simple isn’t it?!
Why three separate websites? Well, they allow me to showcase the different aspects of what I do to specific audiences. If I’m applying for a corporate job, I can share my corporate video producing portfolio. If I need to highlight my film and entertainment expertise, I can do with this website, and etc. One thing I’m considering is securing another domain (rodkirby.me) and using that as a landing page with links to each site.
I know what you’re thinking: “Another website, Rod? Really?”
Yes, really! Hear me out.
Having 1 landing page (which will be a one-page site and not a full website) will let people decide which part of my brand they want to interact with and point them in the right direction. It’ll also unify the sites and make them easier to discover. I’m thinking that the rodkirby.me URL would go on a single business card (one card to rule them all!) instead of having 3 cards for 3 different brands. Make sense?
The sites were designed in Adobe Portfolio which is a part of their creative cloud suite. I’ve been a paying Adobe customer for years and never realized how versatile their portfolio service was until now. It was pretty easy to design and add my content. The photography site was the easiest as they allow you to connect Adobe Lightroom to import photo albums. I put together both websites over a single weekend. I would highly recommend you give Adobe’s portfolio a try if you’re a filmmaker or photographer.
Peruse the sites when you get a chance and let me know what you think by leaving a comment below!
